Designer bags. Those little treasures where (almost) every girl is daydreaming about. I’ve got two beautiful designer (vintage) bags in my collection and got them for a fraction of the retail price – a vintage Chanel bag and a secondhand Alexander Wang bucket bag. I always get a lot of questions about the tips and tricks to get them cheaper – and we all want that, right?
1. Celine 2. Chanel 3. Alexander Wang 4. Illesteva 5. Alexander Wang 6. Balenciaga
SALE
The word that makes girls go insane and grab their credit card before they know it. It’s the perfect moment to get that bag you’re craving for months for -30% off, -50% off and when you’re really lucky for -70% off. This whole situation asked for a really important question; wait or not to wait. Are you going to buy that designer bag right away with the result the bag will be more discounted a few days later or are you going to wait and hope the discount will be reduced even more – but with the possibility it will be sold out. And yes, this last situation has happened to me a lot. Right now sale is entering the last few days so get them – for example at Shopbop and Matches Fashion – before they are gone.
SECONDHAND
Why buying a bag for the full price while you can get a secondhand designer bag that hasn’t been used a lot, for a fraction of the original price. Of course you can check out the second-hand stores in your hometown but the biggest secondhand collection is online. My favorite place to shop second-hand pieces is Vestiaire Collective – where a team of specialist will check the authenticity of the bag before it will be sent to you. Of course you still have Ebay and Designer-Vintage or The Next Closet.
VINTAGE
This is the hardest part to find the perfect designer bag because you really need to think about several things. 1/ You need to check the authenticity 2/ the condition of the bag isn’t always that great because vintage items are +20 years old and 3/ the prices of vintage items are quite high nowadays. I found my vintage Chanel bag accidentally at a small vintage/secondhand shop in my hometown, but I think that was just a lucky shot because I never found something similar (for a reasonable). Vestiaire Collective also has vintage section where you can find some amazing bags that are waiting for a new owner – just like cute puppies!
And last, but not least…be patient! When you don’t find your dream bag immediately it doesn’t mean you need to give up. Keep track on what’s coming in every week at your favorite (online) shops and I know you’ll find the designer bag of your dreams really soon.
