Garance Dore, one of my biggest inspirations when it comes to blogging and building up an empire from your blog. Back in the days when I was shooting streetstyle she was one of the ladies, between all the guys, I looked up to. She is honest when it comes to sharing a story or a view on a subject and combined with her illustrations and great photography it was a blog I checked always a couple of times a week. After launching her stationary line it’s now time for a book that already is becoming a true online bestseller. Because Christmas is coming up I’m thought it would be nice to share with you first impressions of this book. Maybe something to ask Santa for or to give it so someone special.
First of all – the design of this book is just really good. I really love the cover of this book because the font is so good (its Garance own handwriting) and it makes it a book to showcase somewhere in your house and not stucked away on a shelf. Further, I’m happy she didn’t when for a portrait on the cover because that be quite confronting and I don’t think it suits the rest of this book. Like with her blog, she doesn’t always need to be the center of attention. Something I totally can relate to. The rest of this book is filled great styled pages, great photography and illustrations. I’m truly a fan of the last one and honesty I wish there’s more of in this book.
Garance have set up something really good with her blog so I was really curious to see if she could do the same with her book. Bringing the same but still something unique to buy is not so easy. In the end, I think she quite succeed in that case. She’s honest (also about the break up with Scott), gives you life lessons and tips for better style and so much more. Some things were a but unnecessary but other subjects were something I totally can relate to. I love that she stayed true to herself, her style and personality and not went up in the crazy blogger world. Of course, you must not expect a super deep read and maybe something life changing (I guess for some it can be). But it’s a great fun read that gives you a positive boost and it may inspire you to be more you, believe in your dreams and just go for it. So I think it would be a perfect gift for this Christmas.
