Expect the unexpected
That’s what I think about Rick Owens and especially after seeing his last show (just on youtube) few days ago during Paris Fashion Week. The normal standard of shows – people come in, music starts, models walk on the runway and that’s it – is something Owens ripped off this time and went for a dance step performance by a group of strong ladies. He’s already an outsider of the whole fashion scene and with this he woke up the rest. On the other side there were several negative comments about this way of showing a collection, but I got goosebumps and I was so happy to see a performance like this. Owens took his fashion show to another level by giving it another dimension. More reasons why I loved it so much:
– No, the ladies don’t look angry but are filled with power. Very inspiring!
– It brought life into the garments.
– The performance goes about teamwork and that’s something we must do more often in life.
– Showing several types of bodies. Long, short, voluminous, black, white – it all doesn’t matter. They’re all equal.
– Some people said you couldn’t see the garments properly with this type of performance. I understand that, but on the other side it showed that these garments worked so well while moving.
– It’s an ode to an forgotten culture.
– Yes! It’s so out of the box!

The picture above is shot by me 2 years ago when I was alone in Paris for one day when I suddenly spotted Rick Owens walking through Jardin des Tuileries. I asked him several times if I could take a picture of him. But when I saw his look on his face I just knew he was in his own ‘creative’ world and didn’t noticed the world around him. I respected that so I let him walk and snapped this picture.
